Join the very best in special and gifted education

 CEC is the leading voice for special and gifted education. Through the vision and dedication of its nearly 35,000 members, CEC sets the standard for high quality education for children and youth with exceptionalities. The Council ensures the needs of children and youth with exceptionalities are met in educational legislation, establishes professional standards for the field, and develops initiatives to improve special education practice. And CEC is known as THE source for information, resources, and professional development for special educators.

Montana Council for Exceptional Children

 

The Montana Council for Exceptional Children (MCEC) is the state chapter of the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), a national organization that advocates for individuals with disabilities and exceptionalities. The MCEC is a professional organization dedicated to improving educational outcomes for children with disabilities or other exceptional needs in Montana.

Key functions of the Montana Council for Exceptional Children:

  1. Advocacy: MCEC works to advocate for policies that support students with disabilities and exceptionalities at the state level, aligning with the broader mission of CEC.
  2. Professional Development: The organization provides educational resources, workshops, and conferences to help educators, parents, and other professionals learn best practices for teaching and supporting students with diverse needs.
  3. Networking: It serves as a platform for professionals working in the field of special education to connect, collaborate, and share knowledge.
  4. Promoting Best Practices: MCEC helps foster the development and implementation of evidence-based practices for special education in Montana, ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially.
  5. Awards and Recognition: The organization recognizes exceptional educators, students, and others who make significant contributions to the field of special education.

By serving the needs of exceptional children in Montana, the MCEC is committed to improving educational opportunities and outcomes for all students, particularly those with disabilities.

Why Join the Board of Governors?

  • Help plan the annual conference
  • Identify and bring in nationally known presenters and network with them
  • Get registration and travel expenses covered for the Montana CEC  conference
  • Officers are privileged to attend the National CEC Conference (expenses paid)
  • Officers are privileged to attend the Leadership Conference in Washington DC (expenses paid)
  • Opportunity to network with others in Special Education all over the state


 

What are the responsibilities of the Board of Governors?

  • Attend two Board meetings per year-- one in person at the annual conference and the other virtually
  • Participate in the annual conference planning team - meeting monthly virtually for 5-6 months prior to the conference to provide input into conference planning
  • Assist with the annual conference- at the registration desk (guidance provided) and other tasks that need to be done.
