MCEC YES I CAN Award Nomination 

The Yes I Can! The International Awards Program was established in 1981 to celebrate the achievements of children and youth with disabilities; to encourage children and youth with disabilities to seek their highest potential; and to increase public awareness of the abilities, aspirations, and personal qualities of people with disabilities. 


Each year children and youth with disabilities (ages 2-21) are recognized for their accomplishments through the Yes I Can! International Awards Program. Yes I Can! Awards nominations will be accepted in the following categories: 


♦ Academics ♦ Arts ♦ Athletics ♦ School Community Service ♦ Self Advocacy 

♦ Transition (independent living, work or vocational training) ♦ Technology 

Montana Council for Exceptional Children recognizes one student from each of the five CSPD Regions. 


Winners will be recognized at the MCEC/ MCASE Conference and Awards on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at The Copper King Hotel in Butte, MT.   Winners from each category will be submitted as nominations to the International CEC Conference in the upcoming year. 


Yes I Can! International Awards Program Nomination Form 

Please Select ONE Category of Achievement. 

ACADEMICS - achievement in a particular subject area such as math, science, reading, social studies, language arts, foreign languages, etc. or a high level of 

achievement on standardized tests, etc. 

ARTS - achievement in a particular medium such as music, art, drama, dance, or written expression, etc. 

ATHLETICS - achievement in motor skills or a particular athletic activity through a setting such as intramurals, Special Olympics, physical education classes, or 

after-school athletic activities. 

SCHOOL & COMMUNITY SERVICE - contributions to the school and community through activities such as volunteer work, youth work, clean-up campaigns, etc. 

SELF-ADVOCACY - achievement in assuming practical responsibility for oneself, using knowledge of legal rights, advancing one’s goals, and/or effective in obtaining appropriate accommodations for oneself. 

TECHNOLOGY - significant achievement through the use of computerized devices and equipment. 

TRANSITION - achievement through work experience in either workshop settings or the competitive job market; mastering activities for daily self-efficiency such as personal hygiene, cooking, dressing, use of public transportation, etc.

2025 MCEC Awards Nomination CAtegories

  • MCEC Teacher of the Year: This award honors a MCEC member who currently provides direct services to students with exceptionalities and whose work exemplifies the best in special education teaching.

  • Outstanding Leadership Award-This award honors a CEC member who has made significant contributions to the Council’s programs and activities at the local, state/provincial and national/international level over an extended period of time.

  • Special Education Lifetime Achievement Award-This award recognizes an individual who has made continued and sustained contributions to the education of children and youth with exceptionalities.

  • Business Award

  • Special Education Research Award

  • Public Service Award
